When Rotary members travel, they sometimes are able to visit another Rotary club in the country they are visiting. Club member Ann DeMers and husband Dave could not locate any clubs in the areas of Africa they were visiting. Yet Ann & Dave were able to make a visit to a club member who resides in Moshi Tanzania. That club member is Shedrack Domingo who is physical therapist by occupation, but started a project called Build-A-Chair. The project builds custom wheelchairs for persons who can not afford a wheelchair. The project is supported by donations only and was started with the help of this club. Shedrack took Ann & Dave to visit one recipient of a wheelchair, a young boy who is stricken with Cerebral Palsy and lives with his mother. Previous to receiving the wheelchair, the youth boy was confined inside his house. The government of Tanzania offers no services to persons with special needs and must reply on organizations such as Build-A-Chair and Rotary for help. To assist the family, Ann and Dave gave the family a 50 lb. bag of rice. Pictured below is Shedrack Domingo, Dave DeMers, mother of boy, Ann DeMers, boy, and neighbor friend.
